4. Tag (Haifa) 20.07.11

Heute haben wir die Vielfalt der israelischen Bevölkerung hautnah kennen gelernt. An der Haifa University fanden wir uns inmitten einer Studentengruppe, bestehend aus Juden, israelischen Arabern, Drusen und arabischen Christen wieder. Vordergründig beteuerten alle, dass es kaum Probleme zwischen den Gruppen gebe. Bei genauerem Nachfragen merkten wir aber schnell, dass man es als Minderheit in Israel keinesfalls so leicht hat.
Der anschliessende Fotoaustausch hat uns die Unterschiede aber vor allem auch Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen ihrem und unserem Alltag vor Augen geführt. Zum krönenden Abschluss dieses intensiven Tages waren wir zu den Studenten nach Hause eingeladen. Natürlich durfte da auch ein Schlummertrunk in der Studentenbar nicht fehlen.

Today we experienced the diversity of Israel’s population when meeting a group of students with different ethical and religious backgrounds at the Haifa University. Although the students stated that there were no major problems between these groups, we soon remarked that this was not the full truth. Indeed, it seems to be quite hard to live in Israel as a member of a minority.
During a foto workshop afterwards, we got an interesting insight into the life of Israeli students, which showed the differences and similarties of being a student in Israel and in Switzerland. At the end oft he day, we had the chance to spend the night at the students‘ homes. Needless to say that before going to sleep we enjoyed one or two beers at the local student’s pub.
